| I bought this cd player back at the end of July 2009. I have been very happy with it until now. Now I am having to send it into Pioneer's service to have it fixed. The pre-amp has burnt out and has absolutely no sound, not even a hiss. There's no continuity through the speaker wires of the adapter at all. Other than it not playing at all right now, it is a good cd player when it works. Couldn't really complain for the price though. |
WORKS WITH THE 7TH GENERATION IPOD CLASSIC (160GB)

| I really like this radio. i was looking for a radio that i can plug my ipod into and charge it at the same time. i looked everywhere for a name brand radio that can do that for the right price but everywhere i went they wanted to much for. i thought about getting it from amazon but didnt feel like waiting. i went to bb and grabbed this radio for (...) with the tax and i couldnt be happier. i havent had a radio in my car since early november. this radio works perfectly with my ipod. when i looked at it, i thought it had only a AUX port and thats it. but i asked the sales associate and he said it also comes with a cord that plugs in the back of it that can play AND charge your ipod. im used to seeing radios that had the usb in the front. i dont know if this radio will work with the nano or any other ipod but it will work with the classic. i have the 7th generation 160gb ipod and it works great with it. the plug comes with the radio of course and if you look at the pics they have here and look at the back of the radio you will see a green area where something plugs in at. that is the cord that plugs there to charge the ipod and play it. its not a usb though so it work wont with every mp3 player as i said. the plug that comes with the radio plugs at the bottom of the ipod. you can play your songs individually by album, song, artist etc. the remote has good range to and it was easy for me to install. i havent tested the radio or cd player since i have the ipod but im sure they work just as good. BUY THIS RADIO!! I HAVE THE 7TH GENERATION IPOD CLASSIC, THE 160GB, AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY FOR ME!!! there are some grips tho. first the radio is ugly looking, i dont know if the model i got is a little bit older or what but its ugly. also its kinda difficult to use and program. the buttons are small and you MUST read the manual in order to understand how to do stuff wit it. and lastly it has a green glow which is an ugly color for a radio to me. blue is better. but those are small compared to what i really like about this radio. the fact i can play AND charge my ipod. |

A good gift, and a good buy. It was fairly easy to install, came with all of the necessary components to hook straight to an Ipod, and looks good in the Tacoma I installed it in.
This is a really good stereo for people who don't want anything super classy, but want the Ipod feature and something that compliments their vehicle. |
NOT iPhone 3G compatible

I bought this stereo with high hopes that it would integrate with the iPhone. To be fair, it does NOT advertise iPhone compatibility. However, I'm posting this review for others like me trying to assess this based on customer reviews since some products that don't advertise iPhone compatibility still are compatible. There is one review on this product in spanish (titled "Excelente") that says, "...funciona perfecto con mi iPod touch 2g y con mi iPhone 3G" which means "...functions perfectly with my iPod touch 2G and with my iPhone 3G." So I thought that it would work on my iPhone 3G. It doesn't. Either that person hasn't updated their iPhone software, or they didn't really test their iPhone.
The included iPod connector cord does connect to the iPhone BUT it only charges the iPhone. I got an error message immediately after connecting it, and it will not let me access the iPod on the phone. So you still need an auxiliary cable to play the songs on your iPhone's iPod, which I did get and it works well. I bought this stereo on sale, saving $40 on it compared to the stereo that does work with the iPhone, but if the prices were equal or I had the extra money to spend I'd skip this one and go with the iPhone compatible one.
The stereo itself plays pretty well. I like the sleek interface & it matches my Honda CR-V interior nicely. I haven't yet read the manual, which I plan to do because it's not quite as user friendly as I'd hoped. I still hit a couple more buttons than necessary trying to get to the control I want. Hopefully that will change. For people without an iPhone, I'd recommend it. For the rest of us, I wouldn't! |
Good features and sound. Tiny buttons.

I wanted to replace perfectly-working factory stereo in my 2003 Camry LE with something that would play MP3s. My additional criteria were:
1. Established brand name (for perceived quality and reliability)
2. Good reviews
3. Understated appearance with green illumination to match Camry's interior.
4. Preset buttons on the face plate.
I searched Amazon and Crutchfield and Pioneer DEH-1100 (yes 1100 not 2100) was the perfect match; however, because of the way Crutchfield markets and prices car stereos I could get a more feature-rich DEH-2100 for the same price as DEH-1100.
Installation, using the double-DIN to single-DIM kit and wire harness adapter, was very easy once I figured out how to put the kit together. I did not replace factory speakers, so all of the improvements I see come purely from Pioneer DEH-2100.
Pros:
- CD, MP3, and FM sound great. AM is about the same as it was on the factory stereo.
- Setup is very intuitive (clock, balance, fader, preset stations). I set up this stereo to my liking in 5 minutes without ever looking at the manual. I did look at the manual afterwards to understand advanced features.
- Sufficient selection of audio adjustments. There are few preset equalizer curves (voice, flat, dynamic, etc.) plus an option to set a custom one (adjustable low, mid, treble)
- Preset radio buttons eliminate the need to look for and use the included remote control. In my opinion, the remote control in the car is distractive.
- DEH-2100 has an understated appearance compared to some other units that use lots of chrome, exotic button layouts, and silly dancing colors or bars on the display. DEH-2100 matches 2003 Camry LE's interior well (see picture).
Cons:
- Buttons are small and labels are not clearly visible; however, once you memorize the 6 preset buttons, volume control and SRC button, you can easily operate the receiver even in the dark.
- Four navigation buttons around the volume control are raised and located too close to the volume control, and my fingers get caught on them sometimes.
- No attenuator or mute button. This is an oversight on Pioneer's part. There is no way to quickly mute the sound if you need to make or answer a call while driving. The receiver can be turned off by pushing and holding SRC button.
- Mirror trim on the face plate. I dislike the mirror trim and would prefer the faceplate to be plain black - it would have matched my car's console better.
>> This is not really a con, but I think it is worth mentioning that there is no dimmer. The brightness of illumination is the same during the day and at night, but, since the buttons are small, the stereo is not too bright at night.
Overall, the features of this receiver and the pros outweigh all of the cons, and I am glad I have purchased Pioneer DEH-2100. |
